"My family is very private and we usually just keep to ourselves. I know that is not good but we thought that was a good way to insulate ourselves from the bad things that were happening to other people. Anyway, long story short, we come up on some really hard times in the past year and since we did not have a large network of friends and church people are feeling the pinch too, we thought we were on our own. One day I went to the bank to beg them to drop some of the overdraft charges from the checking account and I was on the phone telling my mom that they wouldn't do it.
I guess I was frustrated and talking kinda loud and a lady in the line came up to me and gave me a piece of paper with a name and a telephone number. It said 'Family & Friends Connection, call Virginia 954-251-3434 she will help you.' I felt embarassed because I knew she heard my conversation and turned around and left the bank. I got in the car and called the number on the paper because I was very curious and desperate.
A young woman answered and I asked who Virginia was. She told me and I said I wanted to talk with her. Well, now I am reporting that we reluctantly applied for benefits because nobody in our house has a job. We all got laid off. We are trained and qualified so now we were pointed to Workforce One and we are all looking forward to our job interviews.
Whoever that lady is, I..we thank her because now my mom qualified for assistance and our little handicap nephew does too. We came off our pomp and pride and we are using the help available until we can provide for ourselves again. I believe that lady is a member of Family and Friends or she heard about them on the radio...Yes I stated listening to their Thursday night program and I had to send my testimony."

" I am going to be very honest. I never expect that anyone would care so much about what is happening to me. As a man, I feel like somethings you have to just keep to yourself. But I was desperate for my life to change. So when I called and left a message I was surprise that someone called me back so quickly. I talked to a young lady and she was very nice so I told her what my problem was. I am a man and it was not easy for me to tell a woman that another woman is beating me, if you know what I mean. She was very compassionate and did not make me feel whimpy like some people did.
Well I am glad I told her my problem because I am getting help. She knew exactly who to send me to and where to tell me to call for help. Man this Family & Friends group really care and I must say, my wife is not happy with them because they are helping to empower me so now she have to start backing off. "I am 21 years old and I was homeless and living in a shelter in New York. I couldn't tell the head or foot of my bed differently. I had no outlook and no prospects and had to eat what they gave me whether I like it or not. I was in New York and couldn't find a job so I was depressed. I even considered suicide several times. One day I got a call from a lady who said she was my aunt. She said she heard about me and what I was going through and she wanted me to come to Florida. I was not excited about that, but I listened. After several more calls, she convinced me to come to Florida because Family & Friends Connection could help me better here.
So I came to Florida because there was nothing else better for me to do, and I am soooo happy that I did. My aunt is the President of Family & Friends Connection and she made sure to find me a nice place to live. Now I have my own room and bathroom and I live at this nice lady's house. She is a member of Family & Friends too. I get to cook my own meals and eat what I want and I like that. I am getting ready to go back to school too. They took me on several interviews and I am so excited that I maybe getting a job soon.
I don't know how to pray ..yet but I thank God for Family and Friends Connection for helping me to change my life, because I probably would be dead by now if they did not help me out of the sorry situation I was in."

"I invited a friend of mine to one of our meetings but she kept changing her mind about coming. One Thursday evening she called me up and said she want to go to the meeting. I picked her up and she came. It so happens that we were still having our Leadership Training Workshops, and during the workshop I noticed how intet and focused she was. She was taking everything in, she was just soaking up the information like a little sponge and to my surprise, she was even taking notes.
My friend had not worked in a long time and I believe she got disillusioned and tired of job hunting. She had just given up and was feeling depressed. After the meeting she was so excited. She was energetic and smiling a lot. She said she was glad she came to the Family & Friends Connection meeting. We talked about some of the stuff she learned during Attorney Eugene's Leadership Class and she said she would come to the meeting again the following week.
I got a call from her early the following week. She went out and got a job. She said the leadership class motivated her to get up and go. She is so excited and keeps thanking me for inviting her so many times until she came to the meeting." 12/3/11- Joy: FFC V.P.

"I went to a community function that FFC had, and the feeling in the place was so warm and friendly. The entertainment was so wholesome and upbeat. These people are really inspired to do good. I left feeling so good, because watching them interact with each other, and the visitors made you feel such a sense of caring. They have a really giving spirit and the community is blessed to have an organization like this."

This organization is definitely a blessing to the community with everything they do. I graduated from a full-time dual enrollment high-school where university costs were the least of my worries since they were covered by the program, but starting my next semester as a real college student in the middle of a pandemic was a bit nerve-racking.
With the tuition deadline around the corner, I’m glad I decided to reach out for help. Thanks to this organization I was able to make my tuition payment on time for the semester. My friend was also able to send off a substantial amount of food back to the islands for her family because of your food drives! Thank you FFC!
